Cycling Skills

At Hub + Spoke we provide cycle training for complete beginners through to experienced riders alike. Whether you want to get pedaling for the first time in a safe and supported environment, or you want to improve your road craft and get more confident riding in traffic. Whatever your age, whatever your ability, our trained instructors and ride leaders can help.

“I didn’t know how to ride a bike and a childhood accident had left me partially paralysed. However, Hub and Spoke got me riding and later helped me train as a CTC accredited ride leader. Biking is fantastic,it has changed my life” Tracy (Ride Participant & Ride Leader).

Learn to Balance & Ride

At Hub + Spoke we believe that cycling, like swimming, is a fundamental life skill that anyone and everyone can master.

Our one-to-one balance and ride sessions are tailored to each individual, child or adult, and promise to get you cycling.  In our experience, most folks are riding independently after one or two sessions. If you would like to arrange a session for yourself, or a child please get in touch.  Once balancing and pedaling Bikeability will prepare you for riding on the road. No charge for this community service

Bikeability

Bikeability is “cycling proficiency” for the 21st century, designed to provide riders with the skills and confidence to ride on today’s roads.

In Essex Bikeability is managed through the County Council who work with local trainers. Hub and Spoke is not directly part of the program, which we thoroughly recommend. Most Bikeability sessions are delivered through schools. Use the following link for more information.

Bikeability

Bikeability is “cycling proficiency” for the 21st century, designed to provide riders with the skills and confidence to ride on today’s roads.

There are three levels that take you on a journey from the basics of balance and control, all the way through to planning and making a journey by yourself on busier roads.

Bikeability Level 1

Learn to control and master your bike. The training takes place in an environment away from cars or traffic – usually in a playground or closed car park.

Bikeability Level 2

Get out on the roads! Level 2 gives you a real cycling experience so that you are able to deal with traffic on short journeys such as cycling to school.

Bikeability Level 3

Learn the skills to tackle more challenging roads and traffic situations. Level 3 training is often delivered one-to-one so can be tailored to your individual needs, such as your route to work or school.

Family Sessions

Our family sessions are a fantastic way for adults and children to improve control skills, and learn how to ride together as a group safely and confidently.

Our family sessions are run by National Standard Instructors usually at weekends or during school holidays.  Learning is done through a mixture of games and drills. Keep an eye on our events calendar for upcoming dates.
